Location
15 minutes far from Chania, at the West, Kissamos (Kastelli) is a town with 3821 permanent residents, center of the commercial and agricultural activity of the western part area of the prefecture.

Situated in a very fertile plain with vineyards and olive trees, it still keeps its ancient name, as officially it is called Kissamos. However, it is mostly known as Kastelli (“castle”), due to the fortress constructed by the Venetians and still standing there.

There are a lot of things to visit when in Kastelli; the town was active during the Greco-Roman period and relics from this period are still present. The Roman baths and cemetery, and especially the mosaic pavements are worth seeing.

In the town there are many shops and taverns and a small fishing port, fringed with taverns, just outside the centre. A little further outside is the port of Kastelli, from where ferryboats dock, which come from the mainland. South of Kastelli at a distance of 7 km are the ruins of the ancient city of Polyrhinia, a once powerful Dorian city. One of its ports was Falassarna the westernmost town of Crete.

With Kissamos as a starting point one can visit the archaeological sites of Falassarna and Polyrhinia, the peninsulas of Gramvousa and Rodopou, the Gramvousa isles , the beautiful gorges of Topolia and Tsikhliana and also the amazing exotic beaches of Elaphonisi
The crystal clear sea and the sandy beaches of Kissamos as well as the possible walking routes make your holiday a unique pleasure.
